Scripture: Mark 16:1-8, John 20:1-23, Colossians 2:13-15

Easter Sunday is not just another holiday—it is the celebration of the greatest event in history: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s the moment where everything changed. The cross paid the debt, but the empty tomb declared victory.

For three days, Jesus lay in the tomb. His followers were scattered, grieving, confused. Three years of miracles and ministry had come to a seemingly tragic end. And yet, on that third morning, everything changed.

The Stone Was Rolled Away (Mark 16:1-8)

As the women approached the tomb, they worried: “Who will roll the stone away?”

But when they arrived, the stone was already moved—not so Jesus could get out, but so the world could look in. God wanted people to see the proof. He wanted the evidence of the resurrection to be undeniable. The angel’s message? “He is not here. He is risen!”

This was not just another miracle. This was the fulfillment of everything Jesus had said. This was the moment that proved He was exactly who He claimed to be—the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

The Resurrection Changes Everything (John 20:1-23)

John and Peter ran to the tomb. John outran Peter, but Peter was the first to enter. What they found was not a body, but grave cloths lying folded, a quiet but clear sign: Jesus was alive.

Mary Magdalene, overwhelmed with grief, stayed behind. But when Jesus called her by name, she recognized Him. It was personal. The resurrection always is. What Jesus had taught, what He had promised—it was all true. And it meant that sin, shame, and death no longer had the final word.

New Life Through Jesus (Colossians 2:13-15)

Before Jesus, we were dead in our sins, spiritually separated from God. We tried to live life on our own terms, do what felt good, go our own way. But sin always over-promises and under-delivers. It doesn’t bring peace—it brings pain. But the resurrection changes that. Jesus took our sin and nailed it to the cross. He forgave us completely. He made a way where there was no way.

Now, we can have new life, because Jesus conquered death.

The Decision Is Yours

This isn’t just a story. This is an invitation. Jesus rose from the grave, and now the question is: What will you do with that truth?

You have two choices:

  • Eternal life with God, through faith in Christ

  • Or eternal separation, by rejecting Him

Jesus said:

  • Believe that He is the Son of God

  • Repent—Turn from your sin & Follow Him as Lord

The resurrection isn’t just an event to celebrate. It’s a call to respond. Because Jesus is alive, you can have new life today.

Reflection Questions:

  • What does the resurrection of Jesus mean for your life personally?

  • Have you accepted Jesus on His terms—by faith and repentance?

  • Are you living like the tomb is empty?

  • Who can you share this life-changing hope with this week?
